FAQs
If I feel my child has delays or is struggling in a specific area (gross motor, fine-motor, self-care, speech and language skills) what should I do?
Contact Impressions Pediatric Therapy to determine if an assessment is warranted. If so, we will schedule an evaluation at a time that is convenient for both you and your child.
How often will my child need occupational/physical/speech therapy services?
Frequency and session length depend on your childโs needs, age/attention span, your schedule, and insurance coverage. Most children attend 1โ2 times per week for 30 or 45 minutes. These decisions are made after the evaluation with you and your therapist.
Will my insurance cover these services?
Impressions Pediatric Therapy works with numerous insurance companies to determine eligibility and coverage and bills insurance directly. If there is no insurance coverage, we will work with you to arrange payment options.
How is private occupational or physical therapy different from the therapy provided at my childโs public school?
School OT/PT is provided as a related service and typically requires special education eligibility. Some children who donโt qualify still need OT/PT, and some who qualify may need additional therapy. School-based therapists are highly qualified, but large caseloads can limit the amount of service provided.
How is private speech therapy different from the therapy provided at my childโs public school?
In Maryland, a child can qualify for school speech therapy under speech/language impairment, but they must meet specific criteria. Some children who donโt meet the criteria still need speech therapy, and some who qualify may need additional therapy. School-based therapists are highly qualified, but large caseloads can limit the amount of service provided.
